In a bid to facilitate a hitch-free celebration across the States, the Federal Government has declared public holidays for Christian festivities.
This is even as the government announced Thursday, December 25, and Friday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day.
The government also declared Thursday, January 1, 2026, for the New Year celebration.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Magdalene Ajani made the declaration on behalf of the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
The minister enjoined Nigerians to reflect on the values of love, peace, humility and sacrifice associated with the birth of Jesus Christ.
Tunji-Ojo pleaded with the citizens, irrespective of faith or ethnicity, to use the festive season to pray for peace, improved security, and national progress.
He advised Nigerians to remain law-abiding and security-conscious during the celebrations, while wishing them a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
The statement reads; "The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, extended warm Christmas and New Year felicitations to Christians in Nigeria and across the world, as well as to all Nigerians as they celebrate the end of the year and the beginning of a new one.
"The Christmas season and the New Year present an opportunity for Nigerians to strengthen the bonds of unity, show compassion to one another, and renew our collective commitment to nation-building.
"The Minister wishes all Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year."
