Committed to transforming the livelihoods of Nigerians, the Federal Government has delivered life-changing roads in Adamawa State.
In continuation of its nationwide media tour, the Federal Ministry of Works commissioned Cham-Numan section of the Gombe–Yola Road, which is one of the 2,064 projects inherited from previous the governments.
The road, which is the only artery that connects Gombe State to Adamawa, was rehabilitated in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu to provide world-class infrastructure that will boost development in the country.
Federal Controller of Works for Adamawa State, Engr. Dimas Tuwai described the route as an economic corridor bedeviled by years of neglect.
He explained that issues arising from variations in scope and design necessitated the use of bolders’ fill instead of stone base, leading to an augmentation of the contract sum to about ₦16 billion from its initial ₦9 billion when it was awarded in May 2017.
Tuwai stated that inflation and other contractual factors increased the project cost to ₦43 billion.
He added that the project stands at 44 per cent completion with about 13 kilometres remaining, expressing optimism that it will be completed within the year.
The contracting Firm, Messrs CGC (Nigeria) Limited, represented by the company’s PRO, Simeon Omale affirmed their commitment to meeting the delivery timeline, stating that the road will be fully completed by 2027.
"CGC is committed to completing this project within the stipulated deadline," he said.
Another spot is the Jabbi–Lamba Road executed by M/S Decency Associates Limited.
The company described it as a beneficial project for communities along the corridor, noting that progress has reached about 40 per cent.
Awarded on December 30, 2024, the project will be ready for commissioning within the next three to four months.
Speaking on the quality and progress of work, the Chairman of the Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE) Adamawa State Branch, Engr. Bashiru Aliyu expressed satisfaction with the standard of execution.
He noted that as an indigene, he was pleased with the quality and level of advancement achieved so far, stating that the community did not expect the work to reach such an advanced stage within the time frame.
The Chairman of COREN, Adamawa State, Engr. Wasinda Jonathan described the intervention as laudable, commending the quality of work.
He affirmed that as a regulatory body, COREN is satisfied with the standard of execution.
The recently rehabilitated Doctors’ Quarters Road within Adamawa Central Senatorial District in Yola town was also commissioned as part of the 260 completed emergency/special intervention projects.
Executed by Clinton Enterprise Ltd, the road improved the living conditions of locals by reducing flooding and increasing property values.
Chairman of the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel, Adamawa State, Comrade Ibrahim Kado who performed the commissioning on behalf of the Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi commended the Federal Government for delivering a highly impactful infrastructure.
He said: "This road will lead to increased rental fees and reduce perennial flooding in the neighbourhood."
The Chairman of NSE observed that the rehabilitated roads covering a few kilometres leading to residential quarters, which was previously proned to flooding are now in good condition, as it improved movement of goods and services within the area.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Malam Jubril Mohammed Iliasu appreciated the Federal Government for the timely and beneficial intervention.
"We are no longer afraid of the rainy season," he added.
