President Bola Tinubu on Saturday received Ex-Defence Minister, General Theophilus Danjuma (rtd.), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
This was revealed in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga in Abuja.
Although details of the meeting were not disclosed immediately but Danjuma had been vocal on national issues especially in the areas of politics and security.
The 87-year-old General Danjuma is one of Nigeria’s most influential military and political figures.
Briefly
Danjuma served as Defence Minister during former President Olusegun Obasanjo's first tenure, from 1999 to 2003.
He served as Chief of Army Staff from 1976 to 1979 under the military government of General Olusegun Obasanjo and later as Minister of Defence from 1999 to 2003 during Obasanjo’s civilian administration.
The Taraba State-born former military chief played a leading role in the nation's polity, including the July 1966 counter-coup that brought General Yakubu Gowon to power.
Beyond his military career, Danjuma is a billionaire businessman with interests in the oil and gas sector through his company, South Atlantic Petroleum.
He is known for his philanthropic roles through the TY Danjuma Foundation.
In 2018, he triggered widespread controversy when he advised Nigerians to defend themselves against armed attackers, alleging that security forces were not doing enough to protect vulnerable communities.
