NIQS Lauds BPP’s Reforms On Procurement Ecosystem

 The President of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, QS Dr. Aminu Bashir has praised the Bureau of Public Procurement, BPP, for introducing reforms that will prevent corruption in the procurement ecosystem.

This was even as he reaffirmed the institute’s firm and unreserved support for the reform agenda, adding that the NIQS is willing to support the Bureau’s reform agenda of ‘Value-for-Money’.

He stated this during a visit to the headquarters of BPP on Tuesday in Abuja.

The NQIS had supported the recent Guidelines on the Revised Policy for Variations of Contract Sums and the Mandatory Use of Final Designs of May 2026.

Bashir harped on the need to partner with BPP in cost management, adding that NIQS is Nigeria’s Cost Management Profession that specialises in management, cost planning, variation, variation analysis, fluctuation assessment and the final cost.

Director-General of BPP, Dr. Adebowale Adedokun stated the importance of executing government projects, stating that NIQS represents a professional body that is conducted on professionalism, transparency, accountability and integrity.

He said: “The BPP is anchored on the concept of value for money that translates to value for life. This ensures a positive impact on citizens across key sectors such as health, education, infrastructure and technology.”

Adedokun listed some procurement reforms approved by President Bola Tinubu, pleading with all professional bodies to appreciate the President for his transformative reforms.

He stated that BPP is a regulatory and compliance institution that places a premium on professionalism, pleading with the NIQS to provide its database to the Bureau in order to update the list of their practicing members.

The DG pointed out the need for professionalism in the preparation of Bills of Quantities particularly for construction projects, adding that all MDAs should ensure that the Bills are signed and sealed before using them for any procurement.

The visit is aimed at deepening collaboration between NIQS and BPP on how Nigeria’s statutory professional and procurement frameworks will operate harmoniously with overlapping interest.

EHCON Unveils Technology To Phase-out Emissions, Protect Public Health

BY CHIKA OKEKE, Abuja The Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) has unveiled a technology meant to phase-out Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and protect public health from emerging diseases, in line with the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.  Tagged Oxytane Fuel Additive, it is designed to enhance engine performance, increase fuel efficiency by over 25 percent, and reduce harmful emissions by up to 70 percent. It has been tested on high-capacity generators, including at the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation. Oxytane works by cleaning fuel injectors, removing carbon deposits, and improving combustion in petrol, diesel, and kerosene engines.
