Communications Minister, Tijani Appointed Founding Member Of Global AI Body

Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. 'Bosun Tijani, 4thL; Director General of World Trade Organization, WTO, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, 6th L, flanked by other members during a high-level meeting conveyed by the ITU in Geneva.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. 'Bosun Tijani has been appointed as a Founding Member of the AI for Good Global Commission in Switzerland.

This follows a high-level meeting convened by the International Telecommunication Union, ITU, to help shape trusted, inclusive and globally coordinated approaches to Artificial Intelligence.

The AI body is co-chaired by H.E. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda; CEO of Salesforce, Marc Benioff, with ITU Secretary-General, Doreen Bogdan-Martin serving as Vice-Chair, according to a statement posted on the X handle of the Minister on Friday.

ITU, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland is an international organization within the United Nations System where governments and the private sector coordinate global telecom networks and services.

The Commission brings together leaders including Heads of State, industry, academia and international organisations to advance a shared vision for AI that benefits all.

Tijani described the appointment as a reflection of the significant progress in Nigeria, towards developing a responsible and inclusive AI ecosystem, adding that it will shape the future of transformative technology.

He said: “For Nigeria, this appointment reflects the significant progress we are making in building a responsible and inclusive AI ecosystem through investments in digital infrastructure, talent development, research, innovation and AI governance.

“It also provides an opportunity to ensure that the perspectives and priorities of Africa and other emerging economies are represented in global conversations that will shape the future of this transformative technology.”

He looked forward to working alongside fellow Commissioners to help advance practical solutions that enable AI to accelerate sustainable development and deliver meaningful impact across the world.

CCB, NILDS Endorse CIFCFIN Agenda To Eliminate Fraud

EHCON Seals Deal With EPHAN On Sustainable Environmental Solutions
