FG To Empower 5,000 Nigerians On Meter Installation

The Federal Government has mapped out plans to empower 5,000 young Nigerians as certified meter installation technicians, under President Bola Tinubu’s Presidential Metering Initiative.

Tagged: ‘Power Force Programme’, the project, which is domiciled in the Ministry of Power, will address one of the power sector’s most persistent structural challenges: the metering gap, and the consequent liquidity deficit.

Flagging off the training programme in Abuja, Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe noted that investment and service delivery decline given the absence of accurate measurement of electricity consumption.

The first cohort of trainees are the pioneers of the Federal Government’s-trained smart metering workforce.

Tegbe said: “Where consumption cannot be accurately measured, revenue cannot be reliably collected, and where revenue is uncertain, investment declines and service delivery suffer.

“Meters do not install themselves. Behind every successful metering programme, there must be thousands of competent, certified and dedicated technicians.”

Following the Abuja launch, the training of the Power Force cohort will expand to centres across the six geopolitical zones.

After the programme, the trainees will receive formal certification from the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency as qualified meter installers, having attained the national and international competence, and safety standards.

Beyond its impact on the power sector, Power Force is a direct investment in human capital, creating employment, building future-ready technical skills, and supporting local content development for 5,000 young Nigerians who are expected to form the backbone of Nigeria’s smart metering workforce.

EHCON Unveils Technology To Phase-out Emissions, Protect Public Health

BY CHIKA OKEKE, Abuja The Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) has unveiled a technology meant to phase-out Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and protect public health from emerging diseases, in line with the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Tagged Oxytane Fuel Additive, it is designed to enhance engine performance, increase fuel efficiency by over 25 percent, and reduce harmful emissions by up to 70 percent. It has been tested on high-capacity generators, including at the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation. Oxytane works by cleaning fuel injectors, removing carbon deposits, and improving combustion in petrol, diesel, and kerosene engines. It is used for personal vehicles, generators, and industrial equipment.
