Customs Closes Leadership Gap, Graduates 50 Officers

The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, has closed the leadership gap by graduating 50 officers, who completed the three-month Junior Course 25, at the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, NCCSC, Gwagwalada, Abuja.

In July 2026, about 1,516 officers were directed to exit the Service over the next two years following the release of statutory retirement lists covering 825 officers in 2026 and 691 officers in 2027.

The development is expected to pave the way for the appointment of a new Comptroller-General of Customs to succeed the Comptroller-General, Adewale Adeniyi, though President Bola Tinubu recently approved a fresh six-month extension of service for the CG.

Also, the affected officers’ retirement notices were contained in two restricted circulars issued by the Service’s Human Resource and Development Department and signed by the Comptroller, Establishment, A.A. Bazuaye, on behalf of the Deputy Comptroller-General, Human Resources and Development.

But at the graduation ceremony in Abuja, the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC, Adewale Adeniyi said that the event marked key advancement in their professional leadership careers, charging the graduates to uphold integrity, sound judgment, and national interest over personal gain.

Adeniyi stated that leadership in modern Customs administration requires competence and accountability beyond routine revenue generation, encouraging the graduates to apply their training to meet the demands of a complex operational environment.

The Commandant of the College, Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs, Dow Gaura commended the officers' dedication, highlighting ongoing institutional upgrades, including digital learning tools and strategic training partnerships with the Nigerian Army.

The 50 graduates received their certificates, with special awards presented by the CGC to the three top-performing officers.

EHCON Unveils Technology To Phase-out Emissions, Protect Public Health

BY CHIKA OKEKE, Abuja The Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) has unveiled a technology meant to phase-out Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and protect public health from emerging diseases, in line with the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Tagged Oxytane Fuel Additive, it is designed to enhance engine performance, increase fuel efficiency by over 25 percent, and reduce harmful emissions by up to 70 percent. It has been tested on high-capacity generators, including at the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation. Oxytane works by cleaning fuel injectors, removing carbon deposits, and improving combustion in petrol, diesel, and kerosene engines. It is used for personal vehicles, generators, and industrial equipment.
