TAJBank Wins GIFA Award As Joda Emerges Islamic Banker Of Year

TAJBank Limited has won the 2026 Global Islamic Finance Awards, GIFA, Championship Award (Digital Banking) in the United Kingdom.

The Managing Director of the Bank, Mr Hamid Joda also clinched the 2026 Islamic Banker of the Year award.

GIFA Chairman, Prof. Humayon Dar said on Monday in Abuja that the award was conferred on the bank given its sustained commitment to Islamic banking best practices and people-oriented strategies in deepening non-interest products and services at the grassroots.

GIFA group is a global organisation that promotes social responsibility, Shari’a authenticity, and commitment to Islamic banking and finance.

He noted that the awards were conferred after various considerations by the organisation’s committee and careful deliberations which decided in favour of TAJBank, adding that the considerations were based on various factors outlined in the GIFA Methodology.

Joda described the awards bestowed on him and TAJBank as a call for renewed commitment to Islamic banking practices in the country.

He assured that the bank will continue to leverage its innovative products and service delivery strategies to ensure that more Nigerians benefitted from its offerings on a sustainable basis in the years ahead.

Joda said: “Let me say that the Global Islamic Banker of the Year 2026 award is conferred on me but the commendation goes to our Board of Directors, the management and staff of TAJBank as well as our customers who are creating the enabling environment for my performance.

“I thank the GIFA committee for honouring me and TAJBank with the global awards. I want to also thank the regulatory authorities, our shareholders and customers for the awards and promise them that we shall continue to do our best to retain TAJBank as the biggest Islamic bank in the country.

“This we will do by complying with the best ethical banking practices in their best interest, which is the main purpose of our operations.”

EHCON Unveils Technology To Phase-out Emissions, Protect Public Health

BY CHIKA OKEKE, Abuja The Environmental Health Council of Nigeria (EHCON) has unveiled a technology meant to phase-out Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions and protect public health from emerging diseases, in line with the Paris Agreement on Climate Change.  Tagged Oxytane Fuel Additive, it is designed to enhance engine performance, increase fuel efficiency by over 25 percent, and reduce harmful emissions by up to 70 percent. It has been tested on high-capacity generators, including at the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation. Oxytane works by cleaning fuel injectors, removing carbon deposits, and improving combustion in petrol, diesel, and kerosene engines.
