Messrs CCECC Wins Bid For $2.2bn Fourth Mainland Bridge

Messrs CCECC-CRCCIG consortium has won the  bid for the construction of Fourth Mainland Bridge, 4MB, in Lagos State, expected to gulp $2.2 billion.  This is even as Messrs. MOTA-ENGIL, NIGERIA & AFRICA and CCCC & CRBC consortium were identified as the reserved bidder for the project. The Fourth Mainland Bridge was proposed as a Public Private Partnership, PPP, transport infrastructure project that would comprise of the construction and operation of a greenfield tolled road and bridge, with a design speed of 120km/h, including the development of adjacent real estates. Army Demands Credible Information To Rescue Abducted Female Officer

The Nigerian Army has called on the public to provide credible and reliable information that could lead to the safe rescue of the newly-commissioned female officer, Lt. PP Johnson.  Johnson was allegedly abducted by the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, in Enugu on December 26, 2022 while visiting her grandmother in Aku-Okigwe, Imo State.  That was shortly after the completion of her cadet training and subsequent commissioning as a lieutenant into the Nigerian Army.         ASP Drambi Vandi and late Female Lawyer, Omobolanle Raheem A Lagos State Magistrate Court sitting in Yaba has remanded a former police officer attached to Ajiwe Police Station in the Ajah area of Lagos State, ASP Drambi Vandi at Ikoyi Correctional Centre over the killing of a female lawyer, Mrs Omobolanle Raheem.  BOblog had reported that Omobolanle was returning from an eatery with some family members on Christmas Day, December 25 and had attempted to make a U-turn under the Ajah Bridge when a policeman shot at her vehicle. Former Pope Benedict XVI Dies At 95

Pope Benedict XVI Almost a decade after he quit Nuncio roles due to ailing health, Former Pope Benedict XVI has died at his Vatican residence in Rome, Europe at the age of 95.  He led the Catholic Church for less than eight years until in 2013 when he became the first Pope to resign after Gregory XII in 1415. Benedict spent his final years at the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery within the walls of the Vatican city.  Confirming his death, the Vatican in a statement on Saturday said that: "With sorrow, I inform you that the Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI, passed away today at 9:34 in the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican". President Muhammadu Buhari has renewed the appointment of the Director-General, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye for a final term of five years. This is even as the President re-appointed the Director-General of National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC), Mr Lanre Gbajabiamila for a final term of four years. How Kano Hisbah Destroyed 25 Trucks Loaded With Beer

The Kano State Hisbah Board has destroyed 25 trucks of beer and apprehended 2,260 suspected criminals from January to December 2022. This was even as the trucks contained thousands of bottles of assorted beer at the time of seizure, just as plans are underway to destroy more bottles by January.  The Commander-General of the Board, Dr Harun Sani-Ibn, while briefing newsmen in Kano on Thursday said that most of the persons arrested for criminal offences were handed over to security agencies for necessary action.  He noted that the under aged were reunited with their families. Police Arrest Nine Over Alleged Murder Of Oyo PDP Member

        IGP Usman Alkali Baba The Police has arrested nine persons in connection with the alleged murder of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, grassroot mobiliser in Oyo town, Hakeem Mudashiru. Mudashiru was allegedly macheted to death in his father’s house on Wednesday, 28 December, 2022 by some suspected rival political thugs. NDLEA Seizes Nine Tonnes Of Illicit Drugs, Arrests 1,078 Suspects

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has seized nine tonnes of illicit drugs, worth N1.5 billion, and arrested 1,078 suspects in Kano State.  At the maiden end-of-the-year review on Thursday in Kano, the NDLEA State Commander, Mr Abubakar Idris-Ahmad said that the seizure and arrests were within 12 months. He said that the agency raided 82 hot spots within and outside Kano Metropolis to arrest and seize different illicit drugs as part of its efforts to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking.  This, he said led to the arrest of 1,078 suspects which include 951 males and 127 females. Idris-Ahmad noted that the total drugs seized within the period under review were 8,386.733kg, comprising of 6,607.492kgs of cannabis sativa, 1,778.388kg of psychotropic substances, 451grams of cocaine, 125gram of heroine and 277gram of methamphetamine.           Governor Biodun Oyebanji The Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Ado -Ekiti has upheld the election of Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State and his deputy, Mrs Monisade Afuye. To this end, the Tribunal on Thursday dismissed the petition of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, governorship candidate, Mr Segun Oni. Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Wilfred Kpochi and a member of the Panel, Justice Sa’ad Zadawa, resolved all issues in contention against Oni and his party, SDP. The Panel held that the petition filed by Oni against the return of Oyebanji and Afuye respectively 'failed woefully head or tail'.

Singer Portable Storms Concert In White Coffin

Nigeria's Afrobeat singer, Omololami Okikiola fondly known as Portable shook the music industry on Wednesday night at his first star concert in Lagos. The Zazu crooner was brought on stage in a white coffin by a group of pallbearers.  Tagged ‘Portable Live in Concert,’ the show took place at the Afrikan Shrine in Ikeja, Lagos. But as the pallbearers dressed in white dropped the coffin with Portable in it, the lights were dimmed and later went off, leaving the space dark. Despite Explosion, Kogi Residents Praise Buhari's Visit

Despite the explosion that hit Okene on Thursday, residents of Kogi State have commended President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to commission some legacy projects.  At least, four persons died on Thursday, when an early morning explosion detonated at about 9 a.m, beside the second gate leading to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ibira on Kuroko road, Okene.  BOblog had reported that a car and two motorcycles were also burnt during the incident.        Pele Global icons have continued to send glowing tributes as Brazilian soccer legend, Pele dies at 82.  He passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2022 after a prolonged battle with colon cancer.  Sao Paulo's Albert Einstein hospital, where Pele was undergoing treatment, said that he died at 3:27 p.m. on Thursday due to multiple organ failures. The hospital said that the organ failure was as a result  of elongated colon cancer associated with his previous medical condition. Four Die In Explosion As Buhari Visits Kogi

At least four persons died on Thursday when an early morning explosion hit Okene in Kogi State. This happened few minutes before President Muhammadu Buhari was scheduled to commission some legacy projects in Kogi, that was built by Governor Yahaya Bello.  The explosion which occured at about 9 a.m, detonated beside the second gate leading to the palace of the Ohinoyi of Ibira on Kuroko road, Okene.  BOblog reports that a car and two motorcycles were also burnt during the incident.       Late Kamal Adebayo Celebrities have expressed shock over the death of a Veteran Yoruba actor, Kamal Adebayo, known as Sir Kay. The deceased was also the father of popular skit maker, Abidemi Adebayo, fondly called Isbae U or Bae U Barbie on social media. Kamal Adebayo's death was announced by the  Chairman of the Lagos State Parks and Garages Management Committee, Musiliu Akinsanya, aka MC Oluomo, on Tuesday via his Instagram page . Fatal Crash Claims 10 On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

                      File photo A fatal accident involving a commercial bus on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday claimed 10 lives and left six critically injured. . The crash which occured at exactly 6.30 a.m. on Tuesday around the Guru Mahajji area, involved a commercial bus with registration number TRK 135 ZY and a hit and run truck carrying a container. Confirming the incident, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Sector Commander in Oyo State, Joshua Adekanye, said on Tuesday in Ibadan that the commercial bus was travelling overnight from Malumfashi, Kastiina State. He noted that the bus suddenly came across the truck carrying a container that was driving against traffic. While trying to avoid the truck, the bus hit the container and fell into a ditch, resulting in the death of 10 persons and six injured others. Rep Mulls National Ecological Intervention Commission

The House of Representatives has sought the establishment of National Ecological Intervention Commission to protect Nigerians ruined by flood disasters across the country.  Addressing newsmen on Tuesday in Awka after a meeting with stakeholders in the environment and agriculture sector, member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, Chief Chinedu Obidigwe noted that the proposed Commission would manage part of the ecological funds derived from Federal allocations.  Obidigwe, who is also the Vice Chairman, House Committee on Environment, harped on the need for  a special intervention fund for over 15 states that are yearly affected by the perennial flooding in the country.  This year's flooding led to the death of 600 people even as 2.5 million Nigerians were displaced, The most affected states were Anambra, Delta, Kogi, Rivers, Benue, Yobe, Cross River and Bayelsa. US To Empower NDLEA With Forensic, Prosecution Tools

Buba Marwa  The United States government has disclosed plans to strengthen the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, with forensic, prosecution and intelligence gathering tools.  This is coming on the heels of N500 million grant received by the agency from the Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative, BUA Group, to fund selected projects. Spokesman of NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi said on Monday in Abuja that the forensic support was from the US Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs. He recalled that NDLEA Chairman, Rtd Brig.-Gen. NBS Laments Skyrocketing Food Prices In November

National Bureau of Statistics, NBS, has lamented the skyrocketing prices of some selected food items in the month of November. The NBS Selected Food Prices Watch Report for November 2022, released in Abuja on Monday revealed that the average price of 1kg boneless beef on a year-on-year basis, increased by 29.00 per cent from N1,812.03 recorded in November 2021 to N2,337.46 in November 2022. It highlighted that on a month-on-month basis, the 1kg boneless beef increased by 3.14 per cent from N2,266.24 recorded in October 2022. The report showed that the average price of 1kg rice–local–increased on a year-on-year basis by 18.95 per cent from N421.02 in November 2021 to N500.80 in November 2022. But on a month-on-month basis, the average price of the item increased by 2.73 per cent from N487.47 recorded in October 2022.  The report highlighted that the average price of 1kg of tomato on a year-on-year basis rose by 30.18 per cent from N350.15 in November 2021 to N455.13 in Novem

Police Apprehend Man With Firearm, Ammunition In Enugu

Police operatives serving in Awkunanaw Division, Enugu metropolis, with the assistance of Neighbourhood Watch Group arrested one Sunday Chukwu, 21, for alleged unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. They also recovered one locally-fabricated pistol with one live cartridge from the suspect during surveillance and patrol operation on December 24 at about 9:30 p.m. The state's Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe in a statement on Monday said that the suspect and his cohorts at large, were suspected to be perfecting plans to use the recovered items to launch attack this festive season. The Federal Government has recorded $547 million profit from the auction of 5G spectrum.  At the National Shared Services Centre in Abuja on Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari attributed the feat to the digital economy, which had driven growth, created employment and generated revenue for the country.  He noted that the centre would provide services that are swift, secure and seamless.  The President stated that the Information, Communication and Technology, ICT, Sector had accelerated the diversification of the economy. NDLEA Seizes Christmas Drugs At Lagos Airport, Seaport

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has intercepted consignments containing Colorado that were hidden in vehicles imported from Montreal, Canada and cannabis juice flown in from South Africa.  The consignments were seized at the Tincan seaport, Apapa and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Ikeja, both in Lagos State. Director, Media and Advocacy, NDLEA, Mr Femi Babafemi said on Sunday in Abuja that the drugs were meant for distribution ahead of the Christmas season. He said that the 185 parcels of cannabis Indica, popularly called Colorado weighing 61.3kgs were seized during a joint examination of a container at the Tincan seaport. Six Die, 16 injured In Bauchi Christmas Crash

At least, six person's died on Sunday in an auto crash at Sabuwar Miya village of Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State. In a road traffic report on Sunday, Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Yusuf Abdullahi said that 16 people also sustained injury during the crash.  He stated that the accident, which involved one Toyota Hiace bus with registration number BA124 AO6, occured around  11:50 a.m. Abdullahi noted that FRSC personnel arrived at the scene of the crash within 20 minutes to clear the site. He said that twenty-two people comprising of two male adults, four male children, 10 female adults and six female children were involved in the fatal road crash.  Abdullahi hinted that six person's died on the spot, adding that both the injured and the remains of the deceased were taken to the Kafin Madaki General Hospital for treatment and confirmation.
